Definition of Ethical Issues and Social Responsibility GoalStudents
will learn about how ethical issues are affecting each individual and the whole
community. The importance of this goal is to gain awareness, through case
studies, of the social issues that are affecting everyone in the community, that
is to say why they should care about the issues that might not seem important to
the students but are happening in the community.
If they understand the reason for caring about ethical issues, they will
be responsible members of the community who are willing to pay attention to
ethical issues and start to take responsible action which will not only minimize
the negative effects but also increase the positive effects of their action.
In addition, students will increase their knowledge about some of the
most influencing events that are happening nationwide or worldwide, such as
genetic technology and computerization of working force.
Gaining awareness of social responsibility was not my educational goal because I think those issues are very boring and they are very complicated. However, for the societal educational purpose, we expect students to be responsible members because they will soon become the owners of our community, and they are the ones who will be making decisions and laws for the community. Since they will be deciding which way our community is heading towards, it is very important for students to gain social consciousness and learn about the definition of ethics so that our community will become more and more suitable living environment for its members. |
